Referendum...

WHAT THE REFERENDUM IS ALL ABOUT:

Families for Region 14 successfully petitioned for and was granted a referendum vote by machine in both the towns of Woodbury and Bethlehem under Connecticut General Statute 10-47c to amend the  original 1968 regionalization plan to clarify it’s original intent.

Vote YES to amend the regional plan of 1968 to provide that grades K-5 will be educated and housed in separate K-5 elementary school buildings in both Bethlehem and Woodbury unless and until both towns by referenda further amend the plan to include a different grade configuration.

In other words, vote YES to keep our k-5 elementary schools in both towns and vote YES to ensure that any changes to the plan are only done via referendum vote.

Referendum Update – June 12, 2007

Dear Region 14 Parents and Community Members,

First, please remember that today was a victory because we all had the opportunity to cast our vote, at last.

The results:

953 YES 1405 NO

The regional referendum will proceed regardless, given Bethlehem’s May 31 vote to amend the plan, but I think it’s also important to acknowledge that almost 50% of the voters region-wide prefer to keep their K-5 local elementary schools.

In light of the Bethlehem vote on May 31 coupled with today’s vote in Woodbury, we now have 1566 YES votes and 1696 NO votes on a region-wide level.  That represents a difference of a mere 130 votes with over 3,200 votes cast!

We have been called a small group; we are not a small group, and our numbers continue to grow.

I will continue to keep everyone posted as the process evolves.

Stay informed and be involved!
